A student's simulation of the 4th World Summit of Prosecutors General
SEOUL - YONHAP
A student's simulation of the 4th World Summit of Prosecutors General, Attorneys General and Chief Prosecutors took place in Seoul on Saturday, with the opening of the conference just a
month away, event organizers said.
Twelve teams of South Korean graduate and undergraduate students who advanced past the preliminary rounds acted as countries' prosecutor generals and attorney generals, and discussed current international legal issues, they said.
The United Nations-sanctioned world summit slated for June 30 is aimed at seeking ways to improve international cooperation on various issues regarding criminal justice systems and exchanging opinions.
Prosecutors generals from about 120 countries and high-level officials of important international organizations active in the field of criminal justice are expected to attend the event, according to the organizers.
In the mock conference, student participants took on roles as chief prosecutors from the United States, Mexico, Indonesia, Italy and Cambodia, and developed solutions to world problems.
Students from Yonsei University, representing the Indonesian envoy, gave a presentation on international cooperation in prosecution to deal with piracy. They cited a trial of four Somali pirates held this week in South Korea.
The pirates hijacked a South Korean-operated freighter in waters off Somalia earlier this year but were captured by South Korean naval commandos and transferred to South Korea to face trial.
The Italian delegation, represented by Konkuk University students, said the countries should cooperate in preventing illegal transactions of precious cultural assets.
