Prince Khaled Chair for Consolidating Saudi Moderation Approach completed a number of research studies on moderation over the past two years since Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal launched the chair at
the King Abdulaziz University in 2009.The chair helps researchers, academics and thinkers to make significant contributions in driving deep the concept of moderation in the country and outside.
“The chair has been conducting research programs on moderation in political, economic, historical, social and cultural fields besides organizing awareness programs to spread a culture of moderation particularly among youths,” Administrative Supervisor of the chair Saeed Al-Misfar Al-Malki told Arab News on Friday.
The chair also aims to help Saudi youths to uphold their national values and keep them away from the influences of Westernization besides portraying the true image of Saudi Arabia to the outside world, Al-Malki said.
“Whether it is extremism or Westernization, each has an agenda aimed at marginalizing the style of Saudi moderation,” the prince said in a speech at the time of the founding of the chair.
The chair has also made successful studies on how Muslim countries can adhere to Islamic values while adopting scientific and cultural achievements of the contemporary world without sacrificing their religious faith, Al-Malki said.
In a recent function at the Islamic University in Madinah, Prince Khaled noted the remarkable success achieved by the Kingdom in pursuing the path of moderation both in its domestic and foreign policies.
The chair also plans to prepare an encyclopedia on moderation. It will also prepare studies that would serve as reference sources on moderation in Islam. It has also taken steps to include the methods of moderation as a topic for studies in schools and universities.
The chair participates in exhibitions and produce documentary films as part of its awareness activities. One of its documentaries was featured on the Saudi Channel One recently. It has been organizing contests such as the Future Writer, Online Moderation and Essay on Moderation. About 3,000 participants have been selected from 20,000 preliminary applicants for the Future Writer contest while 600 entries have been received from various Arab countries for the Online Moderation contest.
Crown Prince Naif, deputy premier and interior minister, showed deep interest in the activities of the chair as he attended in some of the events of the chair organized at the KAU in Jeddah.
