UAE Minister of Social Affairs Mariam bint Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi opened on Monday the 34th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El Sheikh, with the representatives of Arab and UN specialised organisations also in attendance.
As chairman of the current session, Al Roumi said the Council had made tremendous efforts to set the Arab development priorities as part of the post-2015 development agenda. There are 15 priorities and more than 60 goals aimed at improving the living condition of people across the world.
'Rapid changes are taking place in the world and the demand upon us is not only to adapt to these but also be proactive and take the lead, given our huge potentials and resources which qualify us to be the best. What we need most is better utilisation of these resources to realise the welfare and security of our people and improve social services and social development programme, bringing these to the international standards,' she added.
She affirmed that the UAE was seeking to boost cooperation and solidarity among Arab countries as part of its policy of deepening solidarity, harmony and mutual respect among Arabs.
