151 divorce case in Egypt in 2011
On Monday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics announced that the number of divorce cases reached about 151,000 in 2011, compared to 149,000 in 2010. With 2,557 more cases in total
, that represented an increase of 1.7%.
Divorces in urban areas made up 87,091, or 57.4%, of all cases, an increase of 1,405, or 1.6%, from the previous year. Meanwhile, in the countryside, there was an increase of 1.8% from 2010, with a total of 64,842 cases compared to 63,690.
According to a report issued by the agency, the highest divorce rate was recorded in those aged between 30 and 35. With 29,925 marriages ending among this age group, it made up 19.7% of the overall total.
Looking specifically at divorced women, those aged between 25 and 30 years old were the most susceptible, with the 35,397 cases making up 23.3%. Meanwhile, those women aged 65 years and above were only responsible for 0.6 percent of the total cases.
