Dubai - Arab Today

The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an initiative billed as ‘Carbon Landscaping' as part of its endeavours to propel the Green Economy drive through increasing the greenery and minimizing desertification in collaboration with a host of entities and local government entities.

Marking the event, Mohammed Yousef Saleh, Director of DTC Corporate Affairs said, "The initial phase of the initiative included planting of 100 Ghaf trees against each kiloton of Co2 emissions at Emirates Academy for Civil Defence Sciences at Al Awir. Phase II included the planting of 150 trees at the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services".

He added that the DTC attaches utmost importance to the green economy concept as demonstrated in adopting world-class practices in conserving water and power consumption as well as environmental and health sustainability.

"In this regard, the DTC engaged in a variety of initiatives and strategic projects aligned with the government drive towards nurturing a green and sustainable environment conforming to the highest global standards," he said, adding, "In this context the DTC has integrated this initiative in the operational plan of the Department for this year; which includes multi-phase landscaping processes set to be undertaken this year which will be coordinated with different government entities in the Emirate to grow about 500 trees. The Carbon Landscaping initiative complements the green economy concept; which contributes to reducing temperature & humidity rates as well as generating a clean and healthy environment".

He said the DTC is currently operating 70 hybrid vehicles which runs 24-hour a day as part of the fleet and the number of these vehicles is set to rise to 100 by the end of this year under a master plan aimed to curb vehicle-related pollution in a bid to make the fleet friendlier to the environment.
