Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi Cairo – Akram Ali Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil al-Arabi has warned member states against the threat posed by Israel to the region's water supplies. Speaking at the inaugural session of the fifth term of the Arabic Ministerial Council for Water Issues, al-Arabi said: "The biggest danger to Arabic national security is Israel, especially its proclivity to seize Arab water sources."
The pan-Arab bloc's chief noted that the water crisis in the region has political, legal, economic and security dimensions, none of which can be separated from the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Al-Arabi called on World Water Council to develop a strategy for water as a matter of urgency in cooperation with regional and international bodies.
Delegates at the seminar in Cairo are expected to draw up an executive plan of the strategy, as well as the follow-up of the implementation of integrated management of water resources’ projects.
The council also plans to further extend and implement the Arab Joint Water Agreement.
