Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and MD & CEO of DEWA, and Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, Undersecretary for the UAE Ministry of Energy, have signed a MoU to exchange expertise on developing a federal energy services market in the UAE.

The MoU also covers energy conservation in buildings, especially government headquarters, and explores the potential for launching projects in energy conservation.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Fatima Al Foora Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Clean Energy and Desalinated Water Affairs at the Ministry of Energy, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at DEWA, Stephan Le Gentil, CEO of Etihad ESCO and Mohammed Motawa, Head of Conservation Policies at the Ministry.

"Our partnership with the Ministry of Energy supports the directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and backs the UAE's Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to make the UAE a world leader in Green Economy, and the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 to reduce energy consumption by 30% by 2030," said Al Tayer.

"We work on enhancing public and private sector partnerships by conducting energy efficiency projects that will boost opportunities to optimise the use of energy," added Al Tayer.

"Through these MoUs with national companies and local organisations, we aim to partner up with private sector and highlight the effective role of all the local parties specialised in the energy sector in the country, including DEWA, to achieve the National Agenda 2021 goals, which the ministry is following up on its implementation with relevant parties," said Dr. Al Neyadi.

"We are working hard in the Ministry of Energy to develop strategies dedicated to enhancing the opportunities of the ideal use of energy in the UAE, as the Ministry has put the conservation of energy and water consumption as one of its strategic goals. Our partnership with Etihad Energy Services Company (ESCO) will assist in promoting innovation in setting sustainable measures that contribute to positioning the UAE as a global hub for green economy," he added.

Dr. Al Neyadi pointed out that signing this MoU with Etihad Energy Service Company will aid in opening up new markets for energy services leading to developing an energy services market that defines and develops opportunities for energy efficiency improvement and rationalisation of energy consumption.

"We are excited to cooperate with the UAE Ministry of Energy to develop new opportunities in energy sustainability. The fact that the region is still an emerging market in the energy efficiency field, holds great potential for Dubai to be a pioneering sustainable city. Companies today realise the significance of adopting efficient solutions, which rationalise energy consumption and take into consideration the financial impact resulting from retrofitting existing facilities. Etihad will play a pivotal role in creating efficient, high quality and environmentally-friendly opportunities in the region," said Le Gentil.
