Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al Jaafari received on Monday EU Ambassador here Patrick Simonnet on the occasion of the end of his line of duty.
Talks tackled the latest political and security developments in Iraq in light of Iraqi forces' advances against Daesh militant group.
Jaafari lauded the role of the EU diplomat in boosting Iraq and providing assistance to the war-hit country in all domains.
He expressed hope of more assistance by the international community to reconstruct the country and bring back all Iraqis who fled violence.
The European diplomat said the EU is one of Iraq's strong partners in fighting terrorism.
The EU states highly appreciate Iraqis' sacrifices in the war against Daesh, he added.
Unrest in Iraq that followed the toppling of Saddam Hussein turned to a civil war in 2014 with the conquest of Fallujah, Mosul, Tikrit and major areas in northern Iraq by Daesh.
