Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Idris attended the seventh summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), which convened in the Congolese capital Brazzaville on Friday.
The summit took up the acceleration of implementing agreements and measures required to guarantee stability and development in the Great Lakes region that is facing several challenges related to the developments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, South Sudan and Central Africa, Egypt’s Ambassador in Brazzaville Ramadan Bakr said on Saturday.
The ICGLR comprises Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Republic of South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
Egypt’s relations with the region have recently grown. Cairo hosted a workshop in February 2017 on crystallizing a collective reaction toward security challenges in the region.
