Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Aati arrived here on Sunday to attend a ceremony marking the inauguration of 30 underground wells that will provide potable water to residents in three isolated districts in Tanzania.
The minister's visit comes at an invitation from his Tanzanian counterpart in appreciation of Egypt's technical and financial support to dig and operate the wells that were provided with turbines operating with both solar energy and diesel.
Cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania comes within the context of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that was signed between the two countries' ministries of irrigation in December 2009.
The MOU stipulated that Egypt will extend technical and financial assistance to Tanzania to dig and operate as many as 70 wells to provide potable water for residents in the most dry districts of Tanzania.
