Italian President Sergio Mattarella arrived in Beirut Friday on a one-day visit for talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Nabih Berri on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.
The Italian president and the Lebanese officials will also discuss means of boosting bilateral relations.
The Italian President was received at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Samir Moqbel, Italian Ambassador in Beirut Massimo Maruti and officers of the Italian contingent operating under the UNIFIL.
Mattarella went South on board a military helicopter belonging to the UNIFIL to check on the Italian contingent, before returning to Beirut to meet, as scheduled, with Berri and Salam.
