Northern Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) President Masoud Barzani agreed to tender his resignation provided that his nephew would take over, a reliable source said Wednesday.
Barzani, whose term in office has already ended, is under pressure from regional and international bodies to resign and form a national salvation government, the source said.
Barzani demanded that his nephew would assume the new government but he did not say when he will leave office. Some sources expected that the resignation would take place within the coming 48 hours.
On September 25, Iraqis in KRG-controlled-held areas and in several disputed parts of the country voted for the Kurdistan province's independence from the Iraqi state.
