H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, has confirmed the integrated employment policy is one of the main areas of Dubai Strategy for Disability 2020.
He announced this at the headquarters of the Executive Council at Emirates Towers in the presence of Abdullah Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of Dubai Executive Council, the Vice President of the Committee and members of the Committee including Directors General of institutions.
During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed stressed that the announcement by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum about changing the title of persons with disabilities into People with Determination "is a lesson for us that real disability lies in thought, will and resolution."
The move is a confirmation from the wise leadership about its faith in the capabilities and abilities of these people who contribute to the developmental of the UAE and Dubai," he noted, adding that the move would help achieve one of the goals of the Supreme Committee about raising awareness about the importance of giving them their right to integration in the community.
Sheikh Mansour expressed his happiness about the launch of the national policy for the empowerment of People with Determination, which proved the commitment of the emirate towards executing the Dubai Strategy for Disability 2020.
He emphasised that Dubai had made great strides in integrating this category through its policies, programmes, and initiatives, which helped them adapt to their surroundings and get access to all facilities provided by the emirate. Dubai should continue on this rapid course to make itself into a city available for everyone by 2020, he added.
Sheikh Mansour said that each individual in the society has the right to independence and self-reliance, and People of Determination must be provided with a conducive environment in all economic, social and urban areas.
The prominent goals of the policy included limiting biasness against persons with disabilities in the field of jobs. They also aim to increase opportunities for them through employment, self-employment or entrepreneurship in various sectors, besides empowering them to gain skills and appropriate professional expertise.
