President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had a busy schedule last week that included a number of activities and meetings, most notably his meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Arab information ministers.
Sisi started his activities this week by holding a meeting Saturday with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail in addition to the ministers of defense, foreign affairs, interior, justice, finance and supply.
The meeting was also attended by heads of the General Intelligence Service and the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) as well as Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Tarek Amer.
Sisi discussed a report on the terror attack that targeted a security checkpoint in Rafah.
In this regard, the conferees reviewed actions adopted in Sinai to hunt down assailants who managed to flee the scene after the attack that left 26 police personnel dead and injured.
The president asserted that extremists are trying to undermine Egypt’s security and stability while the country is gearing up to eliminate terror threats and to carry out development projects nationwide.
Sisi also reiterated the importance of being on highest alert while facing terror and criminal plots.
The meeting’s agenda also covered the CBE's decision to increase interest rates on deposits and loans.
The CBE governor said that rising the rate by 200 basis points is part of a plan to maintain control on markets and to help citizens deal with the hiked fuel and electricity prices.
The attendees also reviewed the decrease in the dollar exchange rate, which was viewed as a positive indicator of increasing confidence in the Egyptian economy and the financial and economic reform policies recently adopted by the Egyptian government.
The move also contributed to an increase in the foreign currency reserves to unprecedented levels since 2011.
Meanwhile, the president directed the ministers to continue providing basic commoditiesin markets at reasonable prices.
Sisi also followed up the measures adopted by the government to restore State lands and control price hikes to alleviate burdens on citizens. (MORE)
