H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, praised the continuing support of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for the sport of Jiu Jitsu in the UAE.
''This encouragement has spurred UAE athletes to several sporting achievements in the Asian and World Championships,'' he stated during an audience with the President of the Jiu Jitsu International Federation, Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, as well as members of the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation and the Higher Organising Committee of the Ras al-Khaimah International Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
During the meeting, they talked about the increasing public profile of the martial art in the last few years within the UAE and around the world.
He also hailed the efforts of the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation to organise national, regional and international championships that enabled the UAE to become a major global venue for the sport.
''Although Jiu Jitsu is a new sport in the UAE, it has already gained considerable international standing, with Abu Dhabi becoming a major host and promoter,'' he added.
