The 5th Conference on Water, Energy and Waste on Monday discussed the impacts of the industrial waste on health, and the economic cost resulted from the deterioration of the environment. The Conference is organized by the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs in cooperation with the Commission of Planning and International Cooperation and Quality Group for Studies. The participants in the event reviewed the costs of the environmental deterioration and the pollution resulted from the major industrial facilities and their repercussions, in addition to the effect of some industries on health and environment. The pollution due to manufacturing some chemical products and its effect, and the dangers of the chemical waste were also on the table. The Conference also touched upon waste treatment at health facilities and the industrial investment in the domain of recycling wastes and purifying water through using nanotechnology. It stressed the importance of establishing environmental industry, warning against the dangers of the chemical and industrial waste. Assistant Minister of State for Environmental Affairs, Eimad Hassoun said that the increase in the number of the citizens, poverty and achieving sustainable development constitute a big challenges that must be overcome through restructuring the development institutions and curbing the repercussions of the environmental deterioration. He stressed the need for decreasing the costs of environmental deterioration through reviewing the indicators and data to know the rate of deterioration and the cost of reducing its repercussions.
