Manama - Bna

Hormonal disorders constitute a health problem to some Bahraini women who suffer from the ailment's difficulties and associated side-effects which adversely affect their psychological state to the extent of frustration as a result of recurrent hairiness which is one of the reasons why they have to visit beauty centers frequently. A large number of Bahraini women suffer from direct effects of hormonal disorders which lead to emergence of increasingly growth of unwanted hair, skin pimples and hair falling. According to Dr. Mona Urayqat, endocrinologist in the Gulf Diabetes Center, more than 10% of Bahraini women sustain this disease, pointing out that between 5-10% of them contract the disease during pre-menopause age. The doctor told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) that the extent of the ailment varies from simple, inconspicuous hair growth to much unwanted hair growth which leads to severe psychological disorders in suffering women, therefore, examination of this health problem should not be overlooked even if it seems to be only superficial. The case must be assessed by an endocrinologist in order pinpoint the root-cause and then to treat it homeopathically. Doctor should ensure a woman's being devoid from any rare, serious disease which caused her much unwanted hair growth such as ovarian cysts or adrenal glands tumors which interpret sudden growth of unwanted hair especially in a women who is thirty years old or above. According to Dr. Urayqat, there may be some other body changes which are a clue to the serious increase in testosterone secretion which requires speedy treatment. The majority of cases of increased unwanted hair growth in women are caused by functional disorders called P.C.Os. The disease begins to emerge at an early age – before adolescence – in girls. The diagnosis comprises: irregular menses, unwanted (male-like) hair growth, skin complaints, hair falling and infertility. Ovarian cysts are the most common type of hormonal disorders in women which afflict approximately 10%. Obese women who have a family history of diabetes suffer from the ailment because there is a close relationship between anti-insulin disorder (a pre-diabetic syndrome) and ovarian cysts. The doctor said that about 10% of women who are suffering from ovarian cysts may become diabetic later on especially with type (B) diabetes mellitus. The increasingly growing rate of the disease is ascribable to hereditary, environmental and nutritional causes and inertia. The doctor warned against the common mistake of direct laser removal of unwanted hair without precise examination which may lead to complications of the disease under continuous hormonal disorder which results in physical suffering and expensive financial costs, adding that treatment should be begun in the appropriate manner by precise diagnosis and examination then determining the right course of treatment. Treatment comprises prescription medicines which lower testosterone secretion and lessens its negative impact on the skin and on the ovarian cysts and regulating monthly period and increasing fertility. Treatment also includes nutritional regime, exercising 150 minutes a week at least and physical activity in general which does not only remedy hormonal disorders but also prevents diabetes. Laser treatment of unwanted hair growth is effective for permanent removal of unwanted hair but should be associated with the other essential medical treat in order to attain satisfactory positive results in the course of treatment.
