Tokyo - UPI

Japan will have 47,756 people age 100 or older this year, up 3,307 from last year, a health ministry survey said Tuesday. The survey, done ahead of Thursday's Respect-for-the-Aged Day, said it would be the 41st straight year of increase in the number of centenarians in the country, Kyodo News reported. The latest survey includes Jirouemon Kimura, a 114-year-old man recognized as the world's oldest man by the Guinness Book of Records, the report said. Kimura, who lives in the Kyoto Prefecture, was born April 19, 1897.
