Egyptian heart surgeon Magdi Yacoub is currently leading a 27-member team on a six-day visit to Ethiopia to perform a large number of cardiac surgeries for needy people, Egyptian Ambassador in Addis Ababa Abu Bakr Hanafy said on Sunday.
In a statement, the ambassador said the visit is part of continuous cooperation between Magi Yacoub Foundation, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) of the Foreign Ministry, and the Cardiac Center of Ethiopia.
The visit is the fourth of its kind since 2014, he added.
For his part, Yacoub said his foundation is committed to continuing cooperation with the Egyptian government through dispatching medical missions to perform surgeries for Ethiopian citizens, training Ethiopian cadres, and granting new medical equipment to the Ethiopian side.
He expressed the hope his team would perform 75 surgeries in the current visit to Ethiopia.
