His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued a decree to establish a public authority to oversee activities at Dubai Healthcare City. The Ruler of Dubai who is also the Prime Minister of U.A.E, has created a body called the Dubai Healthcare City Authority or the DHCA which will develop top-tier medical colleges and universities, nursing schools and a wide range of research, diagnostic, rehabilitation, nutrition and physiotherapy centres. Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, the wife of Sheikh Mohammed, has been appointed as President of the new authority. The law specifies Dubai Healthcare City's objectives, which include promoting Dubai as a global medical and healthcare hub; it also grants responsibility to the authority to inspect facilities licensed to operate in its jurisdiction to ensure high standards of treatment as well as imposing and collecting fees for medical treatments.
