The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee Chairperson Maria Khouri received Acting Finnish Charge d’ Affaires to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Marja Ritala and briefed her on the role of the watchdog in disseminating and protecting human rights.
She highlighted the law 20 of 2016 on amending provisions of the law establishing the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) expanding the watchdog’s prerogatives and independence I compliance with the Paris Principles.
Committee member Dr. Jamila Al-Sammak gave a brief idea about field announced and unannounced visits to rehabilitation facilities and detention centres, labour camps, health and educational enterprises to monitor the situation of human rights.
