Pakistani President Arif Alvi launched a two-week drive against measles in the country on Monday, the official broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported.
"Children are the future of our nation," the president said while addressing the inaugural ceremony, at Poly Clinic hospital in Islamabad, adding that vaccination is very important to protect the children against a number of diseases.
The provincial health departments said that 19 million children from the age of six months to seven years will be vaccinated in the eastern Punjab province, and 7.1 million children in southern Sindh province, 0.9 million children in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 2.1 million children in southwest Balochistan will be administered anti-measles vaccine.
To conduct the campaign smoothly, a total of 15,000 vaccination teams in Punjab, 5,633 in Sindh and 1,247 teams in KPK have been constituted.
International aid agencies have been assisting and would provide all-out cooperation to the primary and secondary health departments to complete the drive successfully, according to the report.
