South Korea has confirmed an additional case of Zika infection, raising the number of people infected with the virus here to 11, local health authorities said.
The 64-year-old man came back from a recent trip to Vietnam on Aug. 20 and was confirmed to have been infected with the mosquito-borne virus, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).
He remains in stable condition and is currently receiving an additional test at a hospital, KCDC officials said, according to South Korea's News Agency (Yonhap).
The latest case raises the number of confirmed infected patients in South Korea to 11, three respectively coming back from Vietnam and the Philippines, one from the Dominican Republic, one from Brazil, one from Vietnam, one from Thailand and one from Guatemala.
The virus, first discovered in Africa, has been linked to thousands of birth defects in newborn babies like abnormally small heads and improperly developed brains in Brazil.
