Celebrated Iraqi singer Kadim Al Saher will perform live at the inaugural concert of the 2nd Sharjah World Music Festival, which will start at 10:00 pm on Friday, January 16.
Presented by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre, the festival will take place from 16th to 25th of January 2015 at Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba, Heart of Sharjah, and Flag Island, with participation of international singers, artists and ensembles from 12 countries: UAE, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, France, Italy, Spain England, Moldova, Bulgaria, India, Cuba, and Argentina.
Since his first solo “Ya Ward Al Ishiq” was released in 1981, Kadim Al Saher has established himself as one of the most successful and celebrated Arabic singers. With 24 albums in his repertoire over three decades, he has performed at hundreds of concerts in the Arab region and the entire world, received awards and accolades from top Arab and international festivals, and sang lyrics by the best Arab poets, including Nizar Qabbani, Karim Al Iraqi, Manea Saeed Al Ottaibah, and Farouq Jwaidah.
On Saturday, January 17 (9:00 pm), Al Majaz Waterfront will host a high-level musical concert, featuring performance of Furat Qaddouri Music Centre’s choir, composed of a group of the centre’s male and female talented students. Audience at the same venue will, also, enjoy a performance by Moldovan violin master Pasha Cazan on Sunday, January 18 (9:00 pm). Both concerts are open to public for free.
The first edition of the Sharjah World Music Festival was run at Al Qasba in Sharjah in the beginning of 2014. As a result of the resounding success and increasing public attention, it was decided to expand the festival across various venues in the emirate of Sharjah.
By organising the festival, Shurooq seeks to boost the cultural and art presence of Sharjah and the UAE, introduce various musical cultures around the world to the UAE community, and add a new product to the Emirate’s list of tourist, art, and cultural attractions.
