Who’s in it? Daniel Radcliffe, Ciarán Hinds, Janet McTeer The plot Prepare for some chills and thrills if you’re heading to check out Daniel Radcliffe’s post-Potter debut. This novel-cum-play-turned-goosebump-inducing movie tells the story of young solicitor, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who has to travel to a secluded and intensely private town in the north east of England to close the estate of a deceased client who owned Eel Marsh House. In true horror story style, the house is situated on a marsh island, linked to the mainland by one long causeway which is covered by high tide at night. Kipps dives straight into his work in the house, pulls a few all-nighters and, yes, you know where this is going, begins to hear footsteps around the house. When he sees a ghostly woman dressed in black he takes creepy matters into his own hands and reports the sightings in the local police station just as two boys bring in their sister who has drunk poison and committed suicide. Soon Kipps begins to get to the bottom of the mystery, with the help of wealthy landowner, Sam Daily (Hinds), however, the woman then ups her terrifying haunting game – think mysteriously moving toys, blood-like writing on the walls and lots of fog The Others-style and you’re on the right track. And she soon sets her sights on Kipps himself as he begins to unravel her secrets. Rating 4 out of 5
