The Russian animators WizArt get the jump on Disney with its film Snow Queen, which follows Gerda, a young girl searching for her brother Kai in a snow-blighted world plunged into eternal winter by the evil Snow Queen. The adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story is relatively faithful and spectacular in its own way, if a little crude in terms of animation. The Snow Queen, in particular, seems quite stilted and lacking in menace throughout, although much of the attraction of the story and characters is provided through the voice acting (particularly Doug Ernholtz's wisecracking troll). It's unlikely to stay long in your memory, but Snow Queen might sustain younger viewers.
