The Interior Ministry said Sunday 31 policemen, including eight officers, were injured in clashes with some citizens in Warraq district of Giza governorate.
The clashes happened after security forces started removing infringements and retaking state-owned lands from their illegal occupiers in the district.
Some people staged protests, attacking the troops with cartridges and stones in an attempt to discourage them from carrying out the demolition orders, the ministry added in a statement.
The troops were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the protests, the ministry said.
The situation was fully controlled and legal action were taken, it added.
