The Afghan embassy in Cairo celebrated Saturday the 98th anniversary of its country's independence in an event attended several diplomats.
Afghanistan gained its independence in 1919, the same year of the Egyptian revolution, Afghan Ambassador in Cairo Fazlurrahman Fazil told the ceremony.
Many countries gained independence also in 1919, he added, hailing Egypt as the country of freedoms and security.
Fazil stressed that his country's relations with Cairo is in constant development. He lauded also that there is great consensus between both countries on many issues.
The ambassador praised Al Azhar's role in teaching about 500 Afghan students after they were at most 200.
