The Arab League (AL) and Al Azhar will sign on Wednesday a MoU to promote joint cooperation in the fields of enhancing dialogue and cultural communication as well as spreading the values of tolerance and moderate teachings of Islam.
This aims at overcoming the extremist ideas that lead to spreading the terrorism phenomenon.
The head of the AL's cultures' dialogue department Samia Beberus said on Sunday that the MoU comes within the framework of the AL's keenness on boosting cooperation with Al Azhar which is a great Islamic edifice that spreads the moderate teachings of Islam.
She further underlined that the MoU targets overcoming the attempts aiming at tarnishing Islam and outlining a joint strategy to deal with the challenges to correct the image of Islam, Arab and Muslims in the world media.
The MoU aims also at organizing conferences and workshops in the fields of common interest, the official reiterated, noting that a workshop will be organized in October by Al Azhar and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
