Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry stressed on Friday the need for real reforms to UN's development plan, taking into account the requirements of developing nations and the aspirations of their peoples.
The minister made these remarks in a meeting with Deputy Secretary General of the UN and Administrator of the UN Development Program (UNDP) Achim Steiner on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry congratulated Steiner of Germany on his recent appointment as Administrator of the UNDP.
The minister also commended Steiner on his accumulated expertise in the fields of sustainable development and the environment, as well as his knowledge of the challenges facing the economy and growth of underdeveloped countries, Abu Zeid explained.
Shoukry expressed his country's keenness to enhance cooperation and coordination with the UNDP, especially in the fields of education and social insurance, he added.
In addition, the minister informed Steiner on Egypt's efforts and steps taken by Egypt to draw up a national strategy to achieve sustainable development, the spokesman concluded.
