Head of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh said the movement decided to build strategic ties with Egypt and will not allow any person or quarter to harm its security.
In statements to MENA on Tuesday, Haniyeh said this requires commitment to good neighbor policy which includes protecting Egypt's national security.
"Gaza will never be a haven for any person threatening Egypt's security," he said.
He said as long as Egypt is powerful, the Arab nations become more powerful.
As for ending the Palestinian schism, he said "reconciliation was our strategic option," adding "we turned over a new leaf and will never go back to the past."
Egypt has managed to bring Hamas and Fatah to the negotiating table, clinching a reconciliation deal.
Under the deal, Hamas dissolved its administrative commission and allowed the Palestinian Authority government to do its work in Gaza.
The PA government convened today for the first time in Gaza since 2014.
