Housing Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Transportation Minister Hisham Arafat Thursday agreed on establishing an electric train linking Cairo with new cities.
The electric train is expected to be operational in 2020 with the capacity to transport about 350,000 people daily.
During his meeting with Arafat and a number of officials from the two ministries, Madbouly said the train will serve people coming from Cairo and Sharqiya en route to new cities and the New Administrative Capital.
The project aims at facilitating transportation between Cairo and the new cities as well as accelerating the development of the new cities, Madbouly added.
He said the train project will be funded by the New Urban Communities Authority and a Chinese loan.
A specialized company for handling the project is now under construction. This company will be responsible for all lands surrounding the train stations in the new cities, he further said.
For his part, Arafat suggested setting up economic projects at the main stations of the train to contribute to financing the project.
