Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Tuesday directed governors and ministers to draw up an emergency plan and form operations rooms as of the beginning of October in order to be ready to face floods.
The premier made the remarks during his meeting with Minister of Local Development Hisham el Sherif, representatives of the irrigation and housing ministries in addition to the governors of Alexandria, Matrouh, Beheira, Minya, Sohag, Red Sea, Aswan, Assiut, North Sinai and Qena.
Ismail urged the irrigation ministry-affiliated Nile Forecast Center and the Meteorological Authority to take into consideration early warnings, detect threatened areas and conduct periodic review on the canals’ levels and on infrastructures.
He also called for establishing coordination among governorates, carrying out periodic maintenance works in addition to improving communication networks in Upper Egypt.
The prime minister ordered that all works be finalized within three weeks and that a report be then compiled and submitted to him.
