Cairo - Akram Ali

Saudi ambassador in Cairo, Ahmed Qattan confirmed that Saudi Arabia does not have anything to do with trial of the President, and did not exert any pressure on the Egyptian government to pardon him. He said, "Mubarak cut off links to Saudi Arabia since the 11th of February, and communication becomes merely with Marshal Muhammad Tantawi, head of the military supreme council and Prime Minister Essam Sharaf". Qattan, denied in an interview with the Egyptian television the traveling of former President Mubarak to the city of Tabuk for treatment after stepping down, pointing out that he didn’t visit the Kingdom at all. The Saudi ambassador also denied the withdrawal of any Saudi Arabian investment from Egypt, as well as the laying off of the Egyptian labor, and said "What is said is nothing more than only rumors that want to drive a wedge between Egypt and its fellow country Saudi Arabia”. Ahmed Qattan added that Mubarak is a "page that was turned" for Saudi Arabia. He stressed the fact that the meetings that took place after Mubarak step down whether in Cairo or Riyadh, did not address at all any talking regarding Mubarak.
