A team from the British Consulate General and the British Council visited Alexandria, Damanhour, Port Said, and Kafr ElSheikh to promote the “Newton-Mosharafa Fund” which aims to bring together the British and Egyptian scientific research & innovation sectors to contribute to Egypt’s economic development and social welfare.
The Newton-Mosharafa team met with the Governor of Beheira, President of Kafr El-Sheikh University, Vice President of Port Said University, Vice President Damanhour University to discuss the opportunities for Egyptian researchers, UK embassy posted on Facebook.
Current researches under the fund include preserving Egyptian maritime archaeological sites, liver cancer, aquaculture, and converting shrimp shells to biodegradable plastic.
The application for grants to create joint research projects between UK and Egyptian institutions is open until 19 September. Each partnership will receive up to £300,000.
The Newton-Mosharafa Fund is £50 million, seven year science and innovation partnership between the UK and Egypt.
