Algerian Minister for Maghreb, African Union and Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel, on Thursday met with a group of U.S. military and security officials, as they discussed bilateral cooperation in different fields, including in the fight against terrorism and extremism, APS news agency reported.
During the meeting, Messahel outlined the ongoing political reforms in Algeria which aim at reinforcing democracy and the rule of law, stressing that the fight against terrorism and violent radicalism is part of safeguarding democracy.
He hailed bilateral consultations between Algiers and Washington in the field of counterterrorism and the fight against radicalization.
APS news agency reported that members of the U.S. delegation hailed the level of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including in the fight against terrorism.
The source added that U.S. delegation expressed the determination of Washington to work hand in hand with Algiers in a bid to restore peace, stability and security in the region.
Algeria and the United States have been holding constant consultations as part of their bilateral security cooperation, as Washington considers Algiers key partner in the fight against terrorism in the region.
