The Doha-based Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) participated here on Monday in the UN Human Rights Office consultations with regional stakeholders. The consultations aim to help the UN Human Rights Office define its strategic direction for 2018-2021 Executive Director of the ANNHRI Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali said that the strategy should include a direction for working with partners and all stakeholders to urge governments to support human rights policies by integrating the vision of these rights in different sectors of education and updating curricula to monitor and eliminate any type of hate speech and to integrate human rights concepts into curricula through the empowerment of women, the modernization of laws in line with human rights principles, the follow-up of the implementation of these laws, the assessment of the respect and conviction of those implementing these rights.
Al Jamali also called for working with partners to propose draft laws that protect and promote human rights for the most vulnerable groups.
The ANNHRI Executive Director highlighted the need to promote popular culture and education on these rights, to educate on economic, social and cultural rights, and to expand into new sectors to include various social groups.
He stressed the need to unify the strategies of all actors in the field of human rights and to secure appropriate human and material resources in order to allow the UN Human Rights Office to work properly on its strategic objectives for the coming years.
