A Canadian helicopter pilot died in a crash while fighting forest fires in northern Alberta, officials said. The helicopter, owned by Campbell Helicopters of Abbotsford, British Columbia, crashed Friday afternoon into shallow water in Lesser Slave Lake, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. The pilot's identity had not been released Saturday. The crash was being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board. At the time of the crash, the pilot was involved in protecting Canyon Village, a summer cottage colony near Canyon Creek. "It has an impact on everybody, not just emergency workers, but everybody who's involved in putting this community back together," Incident Commander Len MacCharles said.
