President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana will serve as co-chair of the UN secretary-general's Sustainable Development Goals Advocates, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters here Tuesday.
"He will be co-chair of the group along with Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway until the end of 2018," Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.
Launched on Jan. 21, 2016, the Sustainable Development Goals Advocates consist of 17 eminent persons assisting the UN secretary-general in the campaign to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that world leaders unanimously adopted in September 2015.
Since assuming office on Jan. 1, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has made it one of his top priorities to promote the realization of the SDGs, a blueprint for the global development efforts for the years running up to 2030.
