Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano said Monday his country plans to return its ambassador to Cairo, more than a year after the murder of Italian student Gulio Regini in Egypt.
The step came as Egypt's Prosecutor General Counselor Nabil Sadeq briefed earlier today his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Pignatone on the latest developments of Cairo’s investigations into the murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni.
In a phone call, Sadeq told Pignatone certain details about police officers’ investigations on Regeni before he was killed and the efforts to retrieve the Cairo Metro’s CCTV footage in an attempt to uncover the mystery behind the murder of Regeni.
The call was meant to coordinate with and inform the Italian side the efforts and developments, the Prosecutor General office said.
Pignatone expressed thanks to the Egyptian prosecutors for doing utmost to bring the culprits to justice.
