Sudanese President Omar al-Bahir received a message from his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday concerning bilateral ties.
The message, delivered by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, reiterated Egypt's strategic concern over established relations between the two countries and the joint work based on mutual respect.
"I heard President al-Bashir's prospective on the importance of joint work regarding boosting the initiatives of both nationalities and reaching increased solidarity to attain common interests," Shoukry told reporters following his meeting with al-Bashir on Thursday.
Shoukry arrived in Khartoum on Wednesday and chaired his country's party in the meetings of the joint political consultation committee between Sudan and Egypt, which kicked off in Khartoum on Thursday.
"We reviewed in the meetings all issues and sectors in need of joint work regarding the deeprooted relations," said Shoukry.
Meanwhile, Sudan's Foreign Ministry's statement regarding the joint political consultation committee meetings said that "both sides stressed the depth of the historical relations between the two countries and agreed to continue exchanging support and coordination at all levels regionally and internationally."
Both sides also agreed to continue holding the joint committees meetings regularly as they constitute the platform for overcoming barriers hampering the progress of bilateral ties.
"The two sides agreed to call on the two countries' mass media to pay attention to accurate reporting of the news concerning both countries," added the statement.
