US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Tuesday that the US is supporting the unity of Iraq while refusing attempts to undermine its stability.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi received Mattis and his accompanying delegation in his office, the National Iraqi News Agency reported, quoting a statement by the Iraqi prime minister's office.
During the meeting, they discussed boosting cooperation between the countries in the military field including training and armament, the statement said.
They also tackled cooperation within the framework of the war on terrorism and the victories achieved by Iraqi forces against Daesh terrorist group.
Mattis hailed the victories achieved against Daesh and reiterated his country's support for Iraq in its fight against terrorism, the statement added.
