Israel has recalled more special forces to the vicinity of Al Aqsa Mosque as the number of Palestinians injured by Israeli forces in the flashpoint site has risen to 91.
Israeli police cordoned off the mosque, closed its gates, evacuated its eastern yards and asked the worshipers inside to leave.
The director of Al Aqsa Mosque Omar Kiswani told MENA correspondent that an emergency meeting would be held tonight to assess the situation.
In an escalation, the Israeli army announced a state of high alert as of midnight, and reinforced its troops in the West Bank with five brigades.
