UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres met on Tuesday in Ramallah with a number of families of Palestinians in Israeli jails.
During the meeting, the families of the prisoners urged the UN chief to "act seriously to save the lives of more than 6,500 male and female Palestinian prisoners who are being subjected to serious harm."
A mother of child prisoner Shady Farrah pointed out to the hard conditions and bad psychological circumstances the child prisoners are going through in the Israeli jails.
More than 300 minors are jailed by Israel.
For his part, Chairman of the Palestinian Prisoners Authority Issa Qaraqe asked the secretary general to convene a special meeting in the UN General Assembly on the issue.
