Afghan intelligence foiled coordinated suicide attacks plot in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan by arresting a group of suicide bombers along with weapons and explosives.The National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced that the militants were looking to carry out at least five suicide attacks in various parts of Helmand province, according to the Afghan (khaama Press).NDS in a statement said that the militants were appointed by Quetta Council to target the presidential and provincial council elections.The statement further added that Afghan intelligence operatives discovered and seized a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) along with two motorcycle-borne IED and a rickshaw packed with explosives during an operation in Lashkargah city.According to NDS officials, at least five suspected militants including a Taliban leader recognized as Ismatullah Sharwal were among those arrested in connection to the attacks plot.Afghan intelligence operatives also seized an AK-47 rifle, 2 pistols, 2 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 15 kg of explosives during the operation, NDS added in its statement.The detained militants have also confessed that their directly involved behind the murder of four Afghan border and Afghan national police officers in Helmand province.
