At least 16 policemen were killed in two separate incidents in southern Afghani province of Kandhar, said officials on Monday. At least five Afghan Local Police (ALP) members were killed in Zherai district of Kandhar province, police official told media. He further added that two ALP members who recently joined the force fired at their colleagues killing five of them. The attackers reportedly managed to flee their duty station along with ALP weapons. The district's administrative head, Jamal Agha confirmed the incident but had no information about the inside attack. The militants equipped with heavy weapons stormed a security post in Shurabak district killing 11 border policemen late on Sunday, said police. Afghan Local Police (ALP) Commander Gen. Tafsir Khan Khogyani confirmed the incident and told that the assailants escaped the scene unhurt and security forces launched a clearing operation in the area. The militants have accelerated their attacks in Afghanistan following major transition in the country, as NATO/ISAF forces have to complete their withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014
