A wide-scale military operation has been launched to liberate a number of villages controlled by Houthi and Saleh militias in southern Taiz.
The Houthis had begun their advance in September 2014, sweeping into the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and taking over government ministries and other areas.
They had held top officials, including President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi, under house arrest until he fled, first to the southern port city of Aden and then to Saudi Arabia.
