Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink has vowed to fight on in the wake of his side's 3-1 defeat by Freiburg yesterday which leaves them just two points clear of the Bundesliga relegation zone. Fink took over a side in an even worse state last October, but after initially reviving their fortunes and leading them towards the top half of the table, a slump with just one point from their past five games has seen the alarm bells ring again. But Fink says his side will be able to turn the corner. "We are not a relegation candidate," he told ZDF. "We are in a relegation battle, but we are not a relegation candidate - we are too good." On Sky, the former Bayern Munich midfielder added: "The team is united, we at the club are united and I believe that the fans are behind us too. "We will try to put our foot down and fight. My quality as a player was always my endurance and I will try to prove that as a coach now. I am convinced that the team has the quality to avoid relegation. That is our aim, our task, and we accept the challenge." Freiburg's second goalscorer Daniel Caligiuri said his side's chances of staying up have increased following their victory at the HSV-Arena. "The more teams who are down there, the better for us," he said. "We wanted to pull Hamburg down into the relegation battle with us and we have done that, so we are delighted."
