Berlin - Arabstoday

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes insisted the Bundesliga leaders will not allow themselves to be derailed by Sunday's shock 2-1 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen. "The defeat will not knock us off course, but we must learn the lessons from it," insisted Heynckes, as Leverkusen won in Munich for the first time in 23 years. "We have to maintain the same pace over the 90 minutes which we showed in the second-half. "When you play against a Leverkusen team, who can counter-attack excellently, then you have to play at pace for the entire match. We didn't turn our superiority into goals, however, we still have a comfortable lead in the table." An own-goal by Jerome Boateng in the 86th-minute handed Leverkusen their first win in Munich since October 1989 and brought the home team's record winning-streak to an abrupt halt. Having set a new Bundesliga record last weekend with their eighth straight win since the season started, Bayern still enjoy a four-point lead at the top of the table ahead of rivals Schalke. We didn't turn our superiority into goals. Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes The visitors took the lead when Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes found Andre Schuerrle on the wing. He then threaded his pass through the Munich defence for striker Stefan Kiessling to tap in on 42 minutes. Bayern levelled on 77 minutes thanks to a header from striker Mario Mandzukic, but Leverkusen were not be denied. Boateng managed to get his head in the way as Leverkusen's Sidney Sam headed home, but the ball only flew into the top left-hand corner and past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer on 86 minutes. "We conceded a really stupid goal to make it 1-0, then worked hard to make it 1-1, then conceded another equally stupid goal for 2-1," fumed Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. There was some good news for Bayern as Dutch star Arjen Robben played the last 30 minutes having returned from injury ahead of the Bavarians' German Cup second round clash against Kaiserslautern on Wednesday. "I'm glad to see the discussion we face every time we come here is finally over," said Rolfes, who was relieved to have finally broken Bayer's duck in Munich. "It was a defensive battle out there." Leverkusen remain fifth in the league, level on 15 points with defending champions Borussia Dortmund. "We are on the right path, which the team has documented with this special win," said joint coach Sasha Lewandowski, whose team are at Bielefeld in the second round of the German Cup on Wednesday. "We were under a lot of pressure on the second half." Bayern's defeat was good news for defending champions Borussia Dortmund, who remain fourth after their 2-0 win at Freiburg on Saturday and who are now nine points behind the Bavarians. Holders Dortmund are at second division Aalen on Tuesday in the German Cup second round. From FIFA
