Montpellier's Fiji wing Timoci Nagusa claimed he was called a "monkey" during his side's Top 14 defeat at Pau on Saturday.
"Being called a monkey by a Pau supporter today, that hurts, but I'm sad there's such a weak human being in Pau," said Nagusa on his Twitter account.
Television pictures on Canal+ caught Nagusa involved in a furious dispute with a group of Pau supporters after he was sin-binned in the 30th minute.
Pau responded by apologising to Nagusa and Montpellier on their Twitter account for an "inadmissable act" and vowed to take action against the fan involved.
Montpellier lost the match 26-16 to the second division champions
